Research Area 2, "Travelling Matters", explores the ways in which temporal communities are shaped and experienced in material terms beyond traditional boundaries of art, literature and theatre. We examine how different aspects of mediality and materiality affect literature as it passes into and out of various artistic formations. Our focus is on processes of transmission, circulation and adaptation, including questions of medial translation and transposition. We ask how media, genres and materialities intersect in shaping what we think of as ‘literature’ through the ages.
