Current research includes an EXC 2020 post-doctoral research project, Activism and Literature (2023-).
In her postdoc project at the EXC2020 "Temporal Communities", Dîlan Canan Çakir explores the intersection of activism and literature. The project aims to systematically investigate the activist potential of literature by examining those authors and texts that reveal such potential. She seeks to explore how literary imagination has shaped the work of activists or why political activism is closely intertwined with literary writing.
Based on a shared goal, vision, history, and experience of a particular group, seeking change while simultaneously evolving over time, activism can be conceptualized as temporal communities. The composition and objectives of activists may change over time, but the shared history and experience often remain as a unifying element. At the same time, activism involves long-term engagement characterized by different phases of mobilization, campaigns, resistance, networks, and achievements. Thus, activism has a transgenerational perspective, forging a connection between generations.
