Lea Hopp: "Die Jury" | 3–5 July 2024

In "Die Jury", six professionals gather to select the best manuscript. Against the backdrop of Lake Wannsee, they debate over tin cakes and filter coffee, strictly adhering to their self-imposed rules. The work addresses the mechanisms of selection procedures, their inherent politics of visibility and the questioning of correct decisions.

Visual artist Lea Hopp (b. 1992) studied in Berlin and Strasbourg. Her works, which are characterised by cinematic, photographic and performative elements, deal with the provisional, the casually everyday and structures of play. She is interested in forms of storytelling, the human body as a moving archive and the process of identity formation. In her films and photographic works, which often contain essayistic elements, she deals with questions of social dynamics and the oppressive character of sign systems—combining a documentary approach with explicitly fictional elements.

Lea Hopp was Dorothea Schlegel Artist-in-Residence in Research Area 2: "Travelling Matters" (March-May 2021) with the project IMPETUOUS IN-BETWEENS and in Research Area 4: "Literary Currencies" (May 2024) with the project not a piece of cake.
