Francesco Petrarca stellt in seiner volkssprachigen Lyriksammlung das innamoramento als Verlust seiner Freiheit dar und bittet dafür um Mitleid und Verzeihung. Während es oft versucht wurde, die Rolle der Gefühle in den lateinischen und volkssprachigen Werken Petrarcas scharf zu unterscheiden, wird der Workshop diese Trennung in der Rezeption Petrarcas im 15. und 16. Jahrhundert und besonders die einschlägige Rolle von Pietro Bembos Werk hinterfragen (nicht nur hinsichtlich der linguistischen Postulate der Prose della volgar lingua, sondern auch mit Blick auf die emotive Kodifizierung in den Asolani). Wichtige Aspekte sind hierbei: (1) Die Darstellung von Gefühlen und ihre Rolle in der Gründung von kulturellen Gemeinschaften (z. B. an den Höfen oder Akademien); (2) Die Transformation von Themen und Topoi Petrarcas unter unterschiedlichen politischen und religiösen Umständen (wie regionale Rivalitäten, die kriegerischen Auseinandersetzungen in Italien oder die Gegenreformation); (3) Die unterschiedlichen Beziehungen unter kulturellen Gemeinschaften (sowohl in der direkten, etwas brieflichen, Kommunikation als auch mittels spezifischer Formen von Intertextualität).

Auf diese Weise wird es möglich sein, die Konstitution kultureller Gemeinschaften in der Frühen Neuzeit besser zu verstehen und am Beispiel Petrarcas und seiner Rezeption Literaturgeschichte als Geschichte der Gefühle zu betrachten.

In his vernacular lyrical collection Rerum vulgarium fragmenta, Francesco Petrarca depicts the innamoramento as the moment when he definitely lost his freedom. For this reason, he begs for mercy from the readers. While it is common for modern readers to strongly distinguish between the role of emotions in Petrarch’s vernacular and Latin works, the workshop will investigate their mutual interdependence through Petrarch’s reception in the 15^th and 16^th centuries and to what extent this was influenced by Pietro Bembo's oeuvre (both by the linguistic work of the Prose della volgar lingua and by the emotional codification in Gli Asolani). Particular attention will be dedicated to (1) the representation of emotions and their role in the creation of cultural communities (e.g. at courts, urban or academic); (2) the evolution of Petrarch’s themes and topoi according to different political and religious circumstances (such as the regional rivalries, the Italian Wars or the Counter-Reformation); (3) different relationships among cultural communities (both as direct exchanges, e.g. via letters, and as a particular type of intertextuality).

This will not only make it possible to draw attention to the representation of the emotions in Petrarch’s work and their function in community-building, but also to shed new light on the history of literature as a history of emotions.

Nei Rerum vulgarium fragmenta Francesco Petrarca presenta l’innamoramento come il momento in cui ha definitivamente perso la propria libertà e, in questa prospettiva, muove la propria richiesta di compassione ai propri lettori. Se i lettori moderni hanno spesso cercato di distinguere il ruolo dei sentimenti in maniera netta tra opere volgari e latine, il workshop si dedicherà a ridiscutere questa separazione critica attraverso la ricezione petrarchesca nel XV e XVI secolo e si chiederà anche in che misura questa è stata influenzata dall’opera bembesca (non solo dal lavoro linguistico nelle Prose della volgar lingua, ma anche dalla codificazione sentimentale de Gli Asolani). Attenzione particolare sarà dedicata: (1) alla rappresentazione degli affetti e al loro ruolo nella fondazione di comunità culturali (p.es. in ambito cortigiano, municipale o accademico); (2) al legame tra l’evoluzione di temi e motivi petrarcheschi e il mutare delle circostanze religiose e politiche (come rivalità regionali, la discesa in Italia di Carlo VIII o la Controriforma); (3) alle modalità della relazione tra comunità culturali (sia intese come scambi espliciti, p. es. epistolari, che come un tipo particolare di intertestualità).

Il workshop considererà dunque più da vicino la rappresentazione dei sentimenti nell’opera petrarchesca e il loro ruolo nel Community Building. In questo modo sarà possibile analizzare nuovi aspetti della formazione di comunità culturali nella prima età moderna e, attraverso Petrarca e la sua ricezione, gettare nuova luce sulla storia della letteratura come storia dei sentimenti.
