Organised by Caroline Kögler, Research Area 4 "Literary Currencies".
The international symposium will examine the relationship between gender and 'literary currency' in the context of a globalised, anglophone book industry. Six presentations will explore the interface between gender, literature, the book market and such phenomena as children’s literature, translation, legal requirements for the book trade, reading, climate fiction, and theatre. As will be discussed, when gender becomes a 'currency,' this also has intersectional dimensions where 'gender' overlaps with aspects of race, age and sexuality. The event will be rounded off with a plenary discussion of excerpts from Alexandra Dane’s White Literary Taste Production in Contemporary Book Culture (2023).
