Gabriel García Márquez‘ Roman Cien años de soledad (1967) gilt bis heute als das weltweit bekannteste literarische Werk lateinamerikanischer Provenienz. Der Vortrag nähert sich der Frage nach dem Konstruktionscharakter von Weltliteratur, indem er García-Márquez-Übersetzungen und ihre Rezeption in ihren weltweiten Dimensionen fokussiert und insbesondere hinsichtlich von Süd-Süd-Beziehungen. Dabei werden spezifische Rezeptionsfilter in verschiedenen sozialen, ökonomischen und politischen Konstellationen herausgearbeitet, etwa was die Kontexte USA, Indien und China betrifft. Es zeigt sich, dass die Denominationszentren des Globalen Nordens eine enorme Macht ausüben, was die weltweite Rezeption von García-Márquez-Übersetzungen bzw. des Magischen Realismus angeht, aber auch, dass eine Süd-Süd-Perspektive heuristisches Potential liefern kann, welches sich aus der Frage nach der möglichen Existenz dezidiert ‚südlicher‘ Ästhetiken und Repräsentationsformen speist. Dies ist umso mehr von Bedeutung, wenn man den Blick auf die literarische Modellierung geteilter historischer Erfahrungen innerhalb des Globalen Südens legt, welche von der Kolonialgeschichte bis zur Einbindung in die ökonomischen, sozialen und kulturellen Transformationsprozesse der globalen Moderne reichen.

Gabriel García Márquez's novel Cien años de soledad (1967) is still considered to be the world's best-known literary work of Latin American provenance. The lecture approaches the question regarding the constructional character of world literature by focusing on García Márquez translations and their reception in their worldwide dimensions, with particular regard to South-South relations. In the process, it will elaborate on specific reception filters in various social, economic and political constellations, for example in the contexts of the USA, India and China. It will demonstrate that the Global North’s centres of denomination exercise enormous power with regard to the worldwide reception of García Márquez translations or Magical Realism, and also that a South-South perspective can provide heuristic potential, which is fed by the question of the possible existence of decidedly 'southern' aesthetics and forms of representation. This is all the more important when looking at the literary modelling of shared historical experiences within the Global South, which range from colonial history to involvement in the economic, social and cultural transformation processes of global modernity.
