In this semester's first Jour Fixe, Simon Godart will introduce his journal project, Bildbruch – Beobachtungen an Metaphern. Founded in 2020 together with literary scholar Sina Dell’Anno and based between Berlin and Basel, Bildbruch publishes twice annually, with contributions from philosophy and literary studies focused on diverse forms of figurative language. By examining the wear, re- and misuse and eventual erosion of metaphors in literary texts and in the philosophical traditions, Bildbruch seeks to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on rhetorical transformations and their long term effects – and asks how figurative speech partakes in constructing the worlds we live and think in.

Simon Godart will talk about the history of the project, the connection to his research and show some material from the journal itself.
