International Conference 19 - 20 November 2024

Deadline: 24 June 2024

News from May 27, 2024

Organised by Research Area 5: "Building Digital Communities"

An increasing number of institutions, including archives, libraries, universities, are enhancing their datasets with metadata and publishing them as linked open data (LOD) on the semantic web. This trend also benefits the (digital) humanities, including literary studies, facilitating a transition towards more metadata-driven approaches in the field. LOD, in particular, offers numerous opportunities for exploring the global dimensions of literature.

Our international conference "Linked Open Data and Literary Studies" aims to provide a platform for scholars, researchers, librarians, and practitioners to share insights, methodologies, and best practices for leveraging LOD technologies in literary studies.

Topics of this conference may include (but are not limited to):

  • literary metadata and knowledge graphs,

  • semantic annotation of literary texts,

  • LOD and underrepresented literary traditions,

  • limitations of modeling linked data,

  • LOD repositories,

  • publishing and querying LOD,

  • visualisation techniques for exploring literary metadata,

  • data reconciliation,

  • theoretical foundations of LOD in literary studies,

  • case studies of successful LOD projects in literary studies,

  • the impact of linked data on the study of literary genres and movements,

  • semantic search and recommendation systems,

  • AI-driven semantic annotations.

Please send your abstracts (200–300 words) and short bios to Frank Fischer (fr.fischer@fu-berlin.de) by 24 June 2024. You will receive notice on the acceptance of your proposal by 8 July 2024. Presentations are supposed to be around 20 minutes long, followed by 10 minutes of discussion.

The conference is organised by Research Area 5 of the Cluster of Excellence 2020 "Temporal Communities" and will take place on 19 and 20 November 2024 at Freie Universität Berlin. The organisers will provide a lump sum to help presenters cover their travel and accommodation costs.
